Peruvian Maca – maca root extract in vegetable capsules

Amix Peruvian Maca is a food supplement containing extract of maca root, which grows in the Peruvian Andes, in vegetable capsules. The extract is concentrated at a ratio of 10:1, meaning that ten parts of dried root are used to make one part of extract. The daily dose of two capsules provides 1500 mg maca root extract. The container holds 120 capsules, or 60 daily doses.

The daily dose is split in two: one capsule is taken in the morning and the other later in the day. One container lasts for two months.

What is maca?

Maca is a plant of the cabbage family that grows high in the Andes, at altitudes above 3500 metres. The edible part of the plant is its tuber-like root, which has been eaten in Peru for centuries – it is boiled, baked and ground into flour. Food supplements use powder or extract made from the dried root, as in this product.

Maca belongs to the same family as cabbage, radish and turnip. Its root is round and about the size of a radish, and depending on the variety it is yellow, red or black. In Peru the plant is also called Peruvian ginseng, although it is not related to ginseng.

Ingredients and capsule

In addition to maca root extract, the capsule contains the stabiliser hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (Methocel®) and the anti-caking agents vegetable magnesium stearate and silicon dioxide, which keep the powder even and make the capsules easier to fill. The capsule shell is made of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose and purified water, and its white colour comes from calcium carbonate. Methocel® is a registered trademark of The Dow Chemical Company.

Who is it for?

Peruvian Maca is suitable for adults who want to supplement their diet with maca root extract. The product is not designed for children or people under 18 and must not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. The manufacturer recommends consulting a doctor or another healthcare practitioner before use, especially if you take medication or other food supplements. If any adverse reactions occur, stop use and consult your doctor. The product may contain traces of milk, eggs, soybeans, gluten, crustaceans and molluscs.

Use and storage

Take 1 capsule twice a day, or as directed by a qualified healthcare professional, and wash it down with plenty of water. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Store in a cool, dry place at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C, away from sunlight and out of the reach of children.
