Amix Arginine – free-form L-arginine in plant-based capsules

Amix Arginine (ARG on the label) is a food supplement whose only active ingredient is crystalline L-arginine hydrochloride. Each plant-based capsule contains 500 mg of L-arginine HCl, and the daily serving of four capsules provides a total of 2000 mg. The bottle contains 120 capsules, i.e. 30 servings – enough for about a month when used as recommended. The label carries a vegan-friendly mark, and the formula contains no sugar, sweeteners or flavourings. The product is part of the range of the sports nutrition and food supplement brand Amix Nutrition and is manufactured in the EU.

What is L-arginine?

L-arginine is one of the amino acids from which dietary proteins – and the body's own proteins – are built. It is a non-essential amino acid: the body can produce it itself, but L-arginine is also obtained from the everyday diet. It occurs naturally in protein-rich foods such as meat and fish products, dairy products, eggs, nuts, seeds and legumes. In food, L-arginine is bound in proteins, whereas in this food supplement it is in free form, i.e. as individual molecules. In the Amix product, L-arginine is in the form of hydrochloride (HCl) – a common crystalline form of amino acids that is often used in food supplements. The label describes the product as a pure amino acid: apart from L-arginine hydrochloride, the formula contains only the capsule shell and anti-caking agents.

How to use?

The recommended daily amount is four capsules, split into two doses: two capsules in the morning and two capsules before bedtime. This provides a total of 2000 mg of L-arginine hydrochloride per day. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose, and if you use other products containing L-arginine at the same time, take their amounts into account as well. 120 capsules last for 30 days.

Composition and storage

In addition to L-arginine hydrochloride, the capsule contains the anti-caking agents vegetable magnesium stearate and silicon dioxide, which keep the powder uniform and make filling the capsules easier. The capsule shell consists of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose and purified water, coloured with calcium carbonate. The product may contain traces of milk, eggs, soybeans, gluten and shellfish (crustaceans and molluscs) – people with food allergies should take this into account.
