OstroVit EAA 400 g – essential amino acids in powder form

OstroVit EAA is a powdered food supplement containing nine essential amino acids plus L-glutamine, L-tyrosine, L-arginine and L-cysteine. One serving provides 2000 mg of L-leucine, 1000 mg of L-isoleucine and 1000 mg of L-valine, giving a total of 4000 mg of branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) in a 2:1:1 ratio. Sportlab offers three flavours: grapefruit, strawberry, and South American fruit and grapefruit. The amino acid amounts per serving are the same in all three flavours, but the serving size and some ingredients differ. The powder is mixed with water into a drink, a good option for people who do not like swallowing tablets. The product is developed and made by the Polish manufacturer OstroVit.

Essential amino acids

Essential amino acids (EAAs) are amino acids that the human body does not produce itself, so they must be obtained from food. There are nine of them: L-leucine, L-isoleucine, L-valine, L-lysine, L-threonine, L-phenylalanine, L-methionine, L-histidine and L-tryptophan. The first three belong to the branched-chain amino acids, or BCAAs. OstroVit EAA contains all nine.

The product also contains four amino acids that the body can form itself: L-glutamine, L-tyrosine, L-arginine and L-cysteine. L-tyrosine, for example, is formed in the body from phenylalanine. Good food sources of these amino acids include meat products, fish, eggs, dairy products and dried legumes.

How to use?

Dissolve one serving, i.e. 1.5 scoops of powder, in 200 ml of water. For the grapefruit and strawberry flavours a serving is 9 g, for South American fruit and grapefruit it is 10 g. On training days, take one serving before a meal or workout and a second serving after training. On non-training days, take one serving between two meals. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. For the South American fruit and grapefruit flavour, the manufacturer notes that due to the high content of L-leucine, L-isoleucine, L-phenylalanine and L-tryptophan the powder dissolves less easily and may leave a slightly bitter aftertaste – a natural feature of the raw materials. In that case, stir the powder gently into water or juice, or take it directly with water or juice.

The flavoured powder is a convenient choice for those who prefer a drink to tablets, and there are three flavours to choose from. According to the manufacturer, the grapefruit and strawberry flavours are also suitable for vegans. The product is not intended for children, pregnant or breastfeeding women. Do not use the product if you are allergic to any of its ingredients.

Ingredients and quality

The grapefruit and strawberry flavours have the same composition: in addition to the amino acids, they contain flavourings, citric acid, beet juice concentrate powder and sucralose as a sweetener. The South American fruit and grapefruit flavour also contains maltodextrin and the sweeteners sucralose and acesulfame K, which is why its serving is 10 g.
