Applied Nutrition Sleep is a food supplement in powder form that is mixed with water to make a drink for the evening. On the EU label the product carries the range name Agewell 40+ Sleep. One 10 g serving provides 400 mg of magnesium, 14 mg of zinc and 1.4 mg of vitamin B6, which is 107%, 140% and 100% of the nutrient reference value respectively. Magnesium and zinc are added as bisglycinates, i.e. bound to glycine. In addition, each serving contains 3000 mg of L-glycine, 500 mg of Montmorency sour cherry powder, 250 mg of L-theanine from green tea extract and 50 mg of L-tryptophan, plus plant extracts: lemon balm, reishi mushroom, ashwagandha root and griffonia seed extract. The 300 g tub provides 30 servings, roughly a month's supply at one serving a day.

Vitamin B6, magnesium and zinc

Magnesium, zinc and vitamin B6 are nutrients the body needs every day and obtains mainly from food. Magnesium is found, for example, in wholegrains, nuts, seeds and pulses, zinc in cheese, pulses and wholegrain products, and vitamin B6 in fish, potatoes and bananas. How to use?

Mix one scoop (10 g) of powder with 250–500 ml of cold water, shake in a shaker or stir well and drink straight away. Take one serving a day, about 30 minutes before bed. The scoop in the pack gives an approximate amount, so the manufacturer recommends using kitchen scales for an exact dose. You can choose the amount of water to taste: less water gives a stronger flavour, more water a milder one. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose and take into account other food supplements containing magnesium, zinc or vitamin B6 if you use them too.
