Applied Nutrition Organ Shield is a peach flavoured food supplement in powder form that you mix with water into a drink. One daily dose – one scoop (10 g) – contains vitamins C, D3, E, K2, B1 and B2, potassium, zinc and selenium, 101 mg of choline, plus palmitoylethanolamide, N-acetyl L-cysteine, coenzyme Q10 and several botanical ingredients: dandelion root, beetroot, goji berry, artichoke leaf and grape seed extracts, juniper berry and hibiscus powder. As it is a powder, there are no tablets or capsules to swallow: the dose is mixed with cold water. The tub holds 300 g of powder, i.e. 30 daily doses. Vitamins, minerals and choline

One scoop (10 g) provides 80 mg vitamin C, 5 µg vitamin D3, 6.80 mg vitamin E, 20 µg vitamin K2 as menaquinone-7, 1 mg thiamine and 1 mg riboflavin. In terms of minerals, the daily dose contains 300 mg potassium, 14 mg zinc as bisglycinate and 200 µg selenium as L-selenomethionine. The daily dose also provides 101 mg of choline (from 200 mg of choline bitartrate, VitaCholine). How to use?

Mix one scoop (10 g) of powder with 250–500 ml of cold water, stir or shake until smooth and drink. Take one serving daily. The scoop gives an approximate amount, so the manufacturer recommends weighing the powder for a more accurate dose.

The product is intended for adults who prefer to get several vitamins, minerals, choline and botanical ingredients from one daily drink rather than from several separate tablets or capsules. According to the manufacturer, people under 18, pregnant or breastfeeding women, people with a known or suspected medical condition and those taking prescription or over-the-counter medication should consult a doctor or other healthcare professional before use. This is particularly important if you take blood-thinning medication, as the product contains vitamin K. If you also take other supplements containing selenium, zinc or vitamins, take their composition into account.

Botanical and other ingredients

Palmitoylethanolamide is a fatty acid amide, and N-acetyl L-cysteine is the acetylated form of the amino acid cysteine. The botanical ingredients in the powder are dandelion root and beetroot extracts (ratio 4:1), artichoke leaf and goji berry extracts (5:1), grape seed extract, juniper berry and hibiscus powder; the ratio shows how many grams of raw material were used to make one gram of extract. We describe these ingredients only according to the composition and amounts stated on the EU label. The peach taste comes from flavouring and the sweetener sucralose, and the colour from carotenes and beetroot red. The bulk of the powder consists of inulin and maltodextrin, with added citric acid, potassium citrates and an anti-caking agent. There are no allergens among the ingredients, but the product may contain milk, soy, eggs, fish, celery and cereals containing gluten.
