Syntrax Micellar Crème – micellar casein protein powder

Syntrax Micellar Crème is a protein powder whose main ingredient is micellar, or native, casein. Casein is the main protein in milk – it makes up about 80% of the protein in milk. According to the manufacturer, the micellar casein is obtained from milk by gentle filtration, without high heat or harsh chemicals, and the product contains no caseinate salts. One serving provides 20 g of protein: 110 kcal in the 30 g serving of the chocolate flavour and 100 kcal in the 29 g serving of the strawberry and vanilla flavours. According to the label, a serving contains 0 g of fat and 5 g of sugars. The 907 g pack holds 30–31 servings. Sportlab offers the chocolate, strawberry and vanilla flavours.

Protein and calcium

Protein is one of the three macronutrients. Syntrax Micellar Crème provides 20 g of protein per serving, which is 73–80% of the energy content of the product. As is typical of casein, the product is naturally rich in calcium: 560 mg per serving, or 70% of the nutrient reference value for calcium.

How to use?

Add one level scoop of powder to about 180–300 ml of water or milk and stir with a spoon or shake for 30–60 seconds until smooth. According to the manufacturer, the powder mixes well with a spoon and does not form lumps. If your protein needs are lower, you can use half a scoop per about 90–150 ml of liquid. A drink made with milk also contains the energy and nutrients of the milk. The manufacturer recommends drinking the protein shake two to three times a day, for example in the morning after waking up, after training or in the evening before bed. You can adjust the thickness and flavour intensity with the amount of liquid.

Who is it for?

Syntrax Micellar Crème is suitable for adults who want to supplement their everyday diet with protein, for example people who train regularly or those who do not get enough protein from their normal diet. A casein shake also fits well into an evening routine before bed. The product contains milk, so it is not suitable for people with a milk protein allergy. The strawberry flavour contains the colour E129, which may have an adverse effect on activity and attention in children.

Ingredients and flavours

The main ingredient of all flavours is micellar casein; the product also contains flavourings, silicon dioxide, salt and the sweeteners acesulfame K and sucralose. Differences between flavours: the chocolate flavour contains cocoa powder processed with alkali, the vanilla flavour vanilla bean powder and the strawberry flavour the colour Allura Red AC (E129). According to the manufacturer, the milk comes from rBST-free, grass-fed cows. Per 100 g of protein there are on average 9.6 g of leucine, 5.3 g of isoleucine and 6.4 g of valine.
