OstroVit Garlic is a food supplement in capsule form that contains garlic oil obtained from fresh garlic bulbs. One capsule is one serving and contains 2 mg of garlic oil (DER 500:1), equivalent to 1000 mg of fresh garlic bulb; according to the manufacturer, 50% of it, i.e. 1 mg, is allicin. The package contains 90 capsules, i.e. 90 servings, which last three months with regular use. The oil is enclosed in easy-to-swallow gelatin capsules, so the capsule form is convenient for those who do not like the pungent smell and taste of raw garlic.

What are garlic and allicin?

Garlic (Allium sativum L.) is a bulbous plant of the amaryllis family (Amaryllidaceae) that is grown and known all over the world. For centuries, garlic has been used as a spice whose characteristic sulphurous smell comes from a compound called allicin. The pungent smell of garlic is the plant’s defence mechanism that keeps pests and insects away. Allicin is one of the main active compounds of garlic and, interestingly, it is only formed when a garlic clove is damaged. That is why garlic cloves need to be chopped or crushed to release allicin. This product is made with garlic oil with a drug-extract ratio (DER) of 500:1 – meaning that 500 parts of fresh garlic were used to obtain one part of oil.

How to use?

Take one serving, i.e. 1 capsule a day, preferably with a meal, and swallow it with a sufficient amount of water. One capsule is also the recommended daily dose, which must not be exceeded. If you also take other food supplements containing garlic, take their amounts into account as well. One package lasts for 90 days, i.e. about three months, with the recommended use.
