OstroVit Betaine HCl + Pepsin is a food supplement in capsule form that contains betaine hydrochloride (betaine HCl) and the enzyme pepsin. One capsule is one serving and contains 650 mg of betaine hydrochloride and 150 mg of pepsin (1:3000 NF). The package contains 100 capsules, i.e. 100 servings, so taking one capsule a day, one package lasts for more than three months. The capsule is taken with a meal. The composition is simple: apart from the two active ingredients, the product contains only a vegetable capsule shell, with no added fillers.

What are betaine HCl and pepsin?

Betaine, also known as trimethylglycine, is an organic compound derived from the amino acid glycine. The human body can produce betaine itself, but it is also obtained from food – betaine is found, for example, in beetroot, spinach, cereals and seafood. Combined with hydrochloric acid, betaine forms betaine hydrochloride, or betaine HCl, a compound with good solubility. Betaine is often used in this form in food supplements.

Pepsin is an enzyme belonging to the endopeptidase group. It is the active form of pepsinogen – an inactive precursor secreted by the glandular cells of the stomach – and is a natural component of gastric juice. The designation 1:3000 NF expresses the enzyme activity of pepsin according to the US pharmacopoeia standard (National Formulary, NF), so its quality is described on a uniform scale. OstroVit has combined betaine hydrochloride and pepsin in one capsule so that both can be taken at the same time.

How to use?

Take one serving, i.e. 1 capsule a day, with a meal and a glass of water. One capsule is also the recommended daily dose, which must not be exceeded. If you also take other food supplements containing betaine or pepsin, take their amounts into account as well. One package lasts for 100 days with the recommended use.
