Raw Fuel – carbohydrate and electrolyte drink powder for long training sessions

Raw Fuel is a drink powder from the Raw Nutrition sport line that provides 25 g of carbohydrates and 300 mg of sodium per serving. The carbohydrates come from cane sugar, maltodextrin and fructose, so the drink contains both glucose and fructose. The sodium comes from sodium citrate and sea salt, and a small amount of magnesium glycinate is added as well. One serving is one scoop, or 27 g of powder, and the 1620 g tub holds 60 servings. The manufacturer designed the drink to be consumed during long and demanding training sessions, such as running, cycling or high-volume gym sessions. Sportlab offers the Orange and Lemon Lime flavours.

Carbohydrates and sodium

The main ingredient of Raw Fuel is carbohydrates: of the 25 grams per serving, 16 g are sugars – cane sugar and fructose – and the rest comes from maltodextrin. Cane sugar consists of glucose and fructose, while maltodextrin is a carbohydrate made up of glucose units. One serving contains 100 kcal and no fat or protein.

Sodium is a mineral found in table salt and many foods. A serving of Raw Fuel contains 300 mg of sodium, equivalent to 0.75 g of salt, as well as 230 mg of chloride and 5 mg of magnesium.

How to use?

Mix one scoop (27 g) of powder with water in a drinking bottle or shaker and shake until the powder has dissolved. Choose the amount of water according to how strong a flavour you prefer. The manufacturer designed the drink for use during long and demanding training sessions. As one serving contains 25 g of carbohydrates, it is easy to work out from the number of servings how many carbohydrates you get during training. After use, close the tub properly and keep it in a dry place.

According to the manufacturer, the Orange and Lemon Lime flavours have the same composition: cane sugar, maltodextrin, fructose, citric acid, electrolyte blend (sodium citrate, sea salt, magnesium glycinate), natural flavourings, silicon dioxide and steviol glycosides (Reb-M). According to the manufacturer, the maltodextrin and fructose are non-GMO. The nutritional values are also the same for both flavours. The manufacturer is updating the packaging design, so the tub may look different from the pictures, but according to the manufacturer the product is the same.
