Applied Nutrition Agewell 40+ – powder drink with glucosamine, chondroitin and MSM

This Applied Nutrition complex is a powdered food supplement from the brand's Agewell 40+ range. One 10 g daily dose provides 3000 mg of MSM (methylsulfonylmethane), 1000 mg of glucosamine sulphate, 800 mg of chondroitin, 300 mg of palmitoylethanolamide (PEA), 120 mg of hyaluronic acid, turmeric extract and 35 mg of AstraGin®. The daily dose also provides vitamins D, E and C, calcium, magnesium and copper. The powder is mixed with cold water to make a fruit-flavoured drink. A 300 g tub contains 30 daily doses, or one month's supply. Two flavours are available: Mango Crush and Orange Burst.

Vitamins and minerals

One scoop (10 g) provides 5 µg of vitamin D (100% NRV), 13.6 mg of vitamin E (113% NRV), 80 mg of vitamin C (100% NRV), 130 mg of calcium (16% NRV), 156 mg of magnesium (42% NRV) and 1 mg of copper (100% NRV).

How to use?

Mix one scoop (10 g) of powder with 250–500 ml of cold water, shake or stir well and drink straight away. Take one serving a day. You can adjust the taste with the amount of water: less water gives a fuller flavour, more water a lighter drink. The scoop is approximate, so the manufacturer recommends using kitchen scales for an exact amount. If you also take other food supplements containing vitamins or minerals, take their amounts into account. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.

The product is intended for adults who want to supplement their everyday diet with one drink combining glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM, hyaluronic acid and a selection of vitamins and minerals. The manufacturer designed it primarily for people over 40 but notes that it is suitable for other adults too. According to the manufacturer, the product is suitable for vegetarians and vegans and is halal certified. Ingredients and quality

The ingredient present in the largest amount is MSM, or methylsulfonylmethane, a sulphur-containing compound. Glucosamine sulphate is the sulphate salt of the amino sugar glucosamine, while chondroitin sulphate and hyaluronic acid belong to the glycosaminoglycans. Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) is an amide of palmitic acid and ethanolamine. The turmeric extract is standardised to 5% curcuminoids, and AstraGin® is a branded ingredient made from the extracts of two plants (see the ingredients list). Calcium, magnesium and copper are provided as bisglycinates. The drink is sweetened with sucralose and coloured with carotenes. According to the manufacturer, every batch is tested for banned substances under the Informed Sport programme, and the products are made in ISO 22000, BRC, GMP and halal accredited production.
