Mutant Whey is a whey protein powder from the Canadian sports nutrition brand Mutant, labelled in the EU as a food supplement. The protein comes from a blend of three forms of whey protein: whey protein concentrate, hydrolysed whey protein and whey protein isolate. One scoop (37–38 g depending on the flavour) provides 22 g of protein and 150 kcal, with 9 g of carbohydrates, of which 4 g sugars, and 2.5 g of fat. This means that around 59% of the energy in a serving comes from protein. The formula also contains MCT oil from coconut, the enzymes lactase and protease, and flavourings. The 908 g pack contains 24–25 servings depending on the flavour. Sportlab offers five flavours: Chocolate Fudge Brownie, Triple Chocolate, Cookies & Cream, Strawberry Cream and Vanilla Ice Cream.

Protein, calcium and potassium

How to use?

Mix one scoop of powder with 150–500 ml of cold water or milk and drink it at any time of the day. The manufacturer recommends pouring the liquid into the shaker first and only then adding the powder, so that the drink mixes more evenly without lumps at the bottom. The amount of liquid lets you choose between a thicker or a lighter drink. When mixed with milk, the drink also gets the nutrients and energy of the milk; the figures in the table refer to the powder only. The product is packed by weight, not volume, so the powder may settle in the bag after filling. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.

Flavours and ingredients

All flavours share the same base: the whey protein blend, thickeners (maltodextrin, MCT oil and guar gum), flavourings, natural cream, sunflower and/or soy lecithin, salt, the sweeteners sucralose and stevia leaf extract, silicon dioxide, potassium citrate, cinnamon and enzymes. The flavours differ as follows: Chocolate Fudge Brownie also contains cocoa, caramel colour and instant coffee; Triple Chocolate contains cocoa and instant coffee and also provides 1.1 mg of iron per serving; Cookies & Cream contains cookie crumbs (tapioca starch, rice flour, sugar, cocoa, palm oil and more) and therefore also sugar; Strawberry Cream gets its colour from red beet powder and also contains citric acid; Vanilla Ice Cream has no added colour or cocoa.
