OstroVit MCT Oil is a liquid food supplement containing medium-chain triglycerides, or MCT oil. One serving is 12 g, i.e. 2 tablespoons, and contains 12 g of fat, most of which is caprylic and capric acid. The bottle holds 500 ml of oil, enough for 39 servings. The oil has a neutral taste and smell, so it is easy to add to drinks and meals. The bottle is made of BPA-free plastic. According to the manufacturer, the product is suitable for vegetarians and vegans as it contains no ingredients of animal origin. The brand is OstroVit and the product is made in Poland.

What is MCT oil?

MCT stands for medium-chain triglycerides. These are saturated fats whose fatty acid chains usually contain 6–10 carbon atoms. The best known medium-chain fatty acids are six-carbon caproic acid, eight-carbon caprylic acid (C8) and ten-carbon capric acid (C10). MCT oil is most often obtained from coconut oil or palm kernel oil. OstroVit MCT Oil is made from oil obtained from oil palm seeds, and the nutrition table shows the caprylic and capric acid content separately. MCT oil is used in food supplements and in cooking, for example in coffee drinks, smoothies and salad dressings, and also in cosmetics as an ingredient of skin and hair care products.

How to use?

Take 12 g, i.e. 2 tablespoons, of oil twice a day with meals. The manufacturer recommends starting with a smaller amount: the recommended serving can be increased by 12 g every three days until you find the amount that suits you. Consuming more than 100 g of the product at once may cause gastrointestinal discomfort. The oil can be mixed into coffee, a smoothie, yoghurt or salad dressing. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.

It is made in a facility that also uses milk, soy, peanuts, other nuts, sesame seeds, cereals containing gluten, eggs, crustaceans and fish, so it may contain traces of them. Keep the packaging tightly closed in a dry place at 15–25 °C. Keep out of direct sunlight.
