NOW Foods Krill Oil is a food supplement in softgel form, with each softgel containing 500 mg of NKO® krill oil. Krill is a small crustacean that lives in cold sea waters. Krill oil differs from ordinary fish oil in that a large part of its omega-3 fatty acids is bound to phospholipids, and the oil also naturally contains the carotenoid astaxanthin. One serving of two softgels provides 1000 mg of krill oil, including 250 mg of omega-3 fatty acids, of which 135 mg is eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and 60 mg docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). The serving also contains 450 mg of phospholipids and 360 µg of esterified astaxanthin. The container holds 120 softgels, or 60 servings of two softgels. The krill is sustainably harvested, as confirmed by the Friend of the Sea certification. The product is packaged in the United States by NOW Foods, a family-owned company making food supplements since 1968.

Omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA

EPA and DHA are long-chain omega-3 fatty acids found mainly in oily fish, seafood and algae. Two NOW Foods Krill Oil softgels contain 195 mg of EPA and DHA in total, which in krill oil are largely bound to phospholipids.

The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 250 mg of EPA and DHA. To reach this amount, take at least 4 softgels a day (2 softgels twice a day), which provide 270 mg of EPA and 120 mg of DHA, 390 mg in total. The maximum recommended daily dose of 6 softgels provides 585 mg of EPA and DHA.

How to use?

Take 2 softgels 1 to 3 times a day with food and swallow them with enough water. You can therefore take 2, 4 or 6 softgels a day; 6 softgels is the maximum recommended daily dose, which must not be exceeded. Spreading the softgels over the day, for example with breakfast and dinner, makes use convenient. With a daily dose of two softgels, the container lasts 60 days, with four softgels 30 days and with six softgels 20 days. If you also use other food supplements containing omega-3 fatty acids, take their amounts into account.

NOW Foods Krill Oil is suitable for adults who want to supplement their diet with the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA, for example people who rarely eat oily fish. Krill oil is also a good choice for those who prefer a different omega-3 source to fish oil, one that additionally contains phospholipids and astaxanthin. The product is not suitable for vegetarians or vegans, as the softgel shell is made from bovine gelatin. The product is intended for adults only. Do not use this product if you have a seafood allergy. Ingredients and quality

The softgel shell is made from bovine gelatin (BSE-free), glycerol and water. The product contains shellfish (krill). It is not made with yeast, wheat, gluten, soy, milk, egg, fish or sesame ingredients, but the production facility also processes ingredients containing these allergens. According to NOW Foods, the krill oil is tested for PCBs, dioxins, mercury and other heavy metals. The product is packaged and quality tested in the United States in a GMP-certified facility, and the bottle is made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic.
