Dorian Yates' pre-workout drink
DY Nutrition Blood & Guts is a pre-workout food supplement in powder form named after the legendary bodybuilder Dorian Yates. It contains amino acids, caffeine and botanical extracts. The powder is mixed with cold water and the drink is taken about half an hour before training. The product contains sweeteners and is available at Sportlab in seven flavours. The tub contains 380 g of powder, the Cola flavour 398 g.
What is in one daily dose?
The Blood & Guts formula is built around amino acids and their compounds. One 19 g daily dose provides 6004 mg of L-citrulline DL-malate in a 2:1 ratio (of which 4340 mg L-citrulline), 5500 mg of beta-alanine, 4009 mg of A-AKG complex consisting of L-arginine (2679 mg) and calcium alpha-ketoglutarate (1330 mg), and 500 mg of L-tyrosine in free amino acid form.
The daily dose provides 372 mg of caffeine in total: 350 mg as caffeine anhydrous, 13 mg from green tea leaf extract and 9 mg from guarana seed extract. The blend also contains 250 mg of green tea leaf extract (of which 237 mg polyphenols), 186 mg of sweet orange peel extract and 1.9 mg of black pepper fruit extract providing 1.7 mg of piperine.
The daily dose contains 47.6 mg of vitamin B3 (niacin) as nicotinamide, which is 298% of the nutrient reference value (NRV). Niacin contributes to normal functioning of the nervous system. Niacin contributes to normal psychological function. Niacin contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
How to use?
The powder is mixed with cold water and the drink is taken about 30 minutes before the start of training. For first-time use, the manufacturer recommends starting with half the daily dose, i.e. one scoop (9.5 g). Exact amounts are given in the directions for use. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.

Who is it for?
Blood & Guts is intended for healthy adults who train regularly and are used to caffeine-containing products. As the daily dose contains 372 mg of caffeine, the product is not suitable for children, pregnant women or people sensitive to caffeine. It is not recommended for people taking medication, and a doctor should be consulted before use. Because of the green tea extract, the product must not be taken on an empty stomach or on the same day as other products containing green tea.
Flavours and packaging
Seven flavours are available at Sportlab: Blueberry, Bubble Gum, Cola, Mango, Pear Kiwi, Strawberry and Watermelon. The amounts of the active ingredients are the same in all flavours; they differ only in flavourings and colours. Blueberry contains the colours Ponceau 4R and indigo carmine, Strawberry caramel and Ponceau 4R, Watermelon Ponceau 4R and Cola caramel; Bubble Gum, Mango and Pear Kiwi contain no colours. How to use
Mix 2 heaping scoops of powder (19 g) with 250–300 ml of cold water and drink 30 minutes before the start of training.
