Berberine HCL – berberine hydrochloride in vegetable capsules

Evolite Nutrition Berberine HCL is a food supplement containing Indian barberry (Berberis aristata) extract standardised for 97% berberine hydrochloride. One capsule contains 400 mg extract, of which 388 mg is berberine hydrochloride. The daily dose is one capsule, so the 60 capsules in the pack (net weight 30 g) last for two months. The product is part of the range of the Polish food supplement manufacturer Evolite Nutrition.

What is berberine?

Berberine is a yellow natural alkaloid found in the roots, stems and bark of plants of the barberry (Berberis) genus. Indian barberry is a thorny shrub that grows in the Himalayan region. The same genus includes the common barberry (Berberis vulgaris), whose red berries are used as a spice. In this product berberine is in the form of its hydrochloride salt, which is a stable and pure form. Standardising the extract to 97% means that almost the entire amount of extract is berberine hydrochloride and the capsule contains very little else.

Vegetable capsule

The capsule is made of hypromellose, also called hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, a capsule material of plant origin. Hypromellose is made from cellulose and is widely used to produce vegetable capsules. The manufacturer labels the product as vegan capsules. The capsule colours are yellow and black iron oxide (E172) and patent blue V (E131). The capsule contains no fillers or anti-caking agents – the ingredient list includes only the extract and the capsule material.

Use and storage

Take 1 capsule once a day – with a daily dose of just one capsule, the product is easy to use every day. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Keep the pack tightly closed in a dry place at a constant temperature not exceeding 25 °C and protect it from direct sunlight. Keep out of the reach of young children.
