OstroVit Berberine – barberry root extract with berberine

OstroVit Berberine is a food supplement containing barberry root extract in tablet form. The extract is standardised so that 2% of it is berberine. One tablet is one serving and provides 500 mg of extract, of which 10 mg is berberine. The container holds 90 tablets, or 90 daily doses, which last three months with regular use. The product is also suitable for vegans. The manufacturer's official product name is Berberine VEGE. It is made by the Polish company OstroVit.

What is berberine?

Berberine is a natural plant compound belonging to the isoquinoline alkaloids. It is found in the roots, stems and fruits of shrubs of the barberry family. In its pure form berberine is a yellow substance that is poorly soluble in water and alcohol. Food supplements use berberine in various forms, such as berberine hydrochloride, berberine sulphate or natural plant extracts. In this product berberine comes from barberry root extract with a standardised active compound content. Standardisation means that each tablet contains the same amount of berberine – 2% of the extract, or 10 mg. According to the manufacturer, 10 mg is the maximum daily amount of berberine it uses in a food supplement.

How to use?

Take one serving, i.e. 1 tablet, a day with a meal and swallow with a sufficient amount of water. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. If you use other food supplements containing berberine or barberry extract at the same time, take their amounts into account too.
