Now Foods Ultra Omega-3 is a food supplement in which each softgel contains 1000 mg of molecularly distilled fish oil concentrate. One softgel provides 500 mg of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and 250 mg of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) – the two main long-chain omega-3 fatty acids found in oily sea fish. One softgel provides 500 mg of EPA and 250 mg of DHA; two softgels a day provide 1000 mg of EPA and 500 mg of DHA. Ultra Omega-3 is a highly concentrated fish oil: of the 1000 mg of concentrate, EPA and DHA together make up 750 mg. The fish oil is obtained from anchovies and sardines. The softgel has an enteric coating designed to dissolve in the intestine rather than in the stomach, and according to the manufacturer it is odour-controlled. The bottle contains 180 softgels, which last 90–180 days when used as recommended. The product is made by NOW Foods, an American family-owned company founded in 1968.
