OstroVit Omega 3 D3+K2 – fish oil with vitamins D3, K2 and E

OstroVit Omega 3 D3+K2 is a food supplement that combines fish oil and the fat-soluble vitamins D3, K2 and E in one soft capsule. One capsule is also the daily dose and provides 1000 mg fish oil, of which 330 mg is eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and 220 mg docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). In addition, the capsule contains 50 µg, or 2000 IU, vitamin D3 (1000% of the nutrient reference value), 50 µg vitamin K2 as menaquinone-7 (67% of the reference value) and 12 mg vitamin E (100% of the reference value). The container holds 90 capsules, a three-month supply. The product is made by the Polish company OstroVit.

EPA and DHA contribute to the normal function of the heart. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 250 mg of EPA and DHA; one capsule provides 550 mg of EPA and DHA in total. Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal bones. Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal teeth. Vitamin D contributes to the normal function of the immune system. Vitamin K contributes to normal blood clotting. Vitamin K contributes to the maintenance of normal bones. Vitamin E contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.

What are omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins D3, K2 and E?

Omega-3 fatty acids include the long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids EPA and DHA. They must be obtained from the diet, mainly from oily sea fish and seafood, or from food supplements. Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is a fat-soluble vitamin obtained, for example, from oily fish, which the body also produces itself when the skin is exposed to sunlight. Vitamin K2 (menaquinone) is also a fat-soluble vitamin; in this product it is present as menaquinone-7, obtained with the bacterium Bacillus subtilis natto. Vitamin E is a fat-soluble nutrient found in vegetable oils, hazelnuts and cereal germs. The product contains vitamin E as D-alpha-tocopheryl acetate.

How to use?

Take one capsule a day, preferably after a meal, and swallow with plenty of water. As all active ingredients are fat-soluble, the capsule is well suited to be taken with a main meal. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. If you use other food supplements containing vitamin D, vitamin K or fish oil at the same time, take their amounts into account too. The manufacturer recommends having a vitamin D level test, i.e. a 25(OH)D blood test, and consulting a doctor or pharmacist before use.

Who is it for?

The product is suitable for adults who want to supplement their diet with omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins D3, K2 and E, for example people who rarely eat oily fish or spend little time in the sun. All active ingredients are in one capsule, so the daily dose is easy to remember. Children, pregnant and breastfeeding women must not use the product. The product is not suitable for people taking anticoagulants containing vitamin K antagonists, such as warfarin or acenocoumarol. Do not use the product if you are allergic to any of its ingredients.

Ingredients and storage

The capsule content consists of fish oil with added D-alpha-tocopheryl acetate, cholecalciferol and menaquinone-7. The soft capsule shell is made of gelatin, the humectant glycerol and water, and its colour comes from the colour caramel. The net weight of the capsules in the container is 113 g. Due to its high fish oil content, the product has a characteristic fishy smell. Store in a dry place at room temperature, away from direct sunlight, and close the container carefully after use.
