Cellucor C4 Carbonated – carbonated energy drink with niacin and vitamin B12

C4 Carbonated is a carbonated energy drink in a 500 ml can from the US sports nutrition brand Cellucor. The version sold by Sportlab is made in Belgium and its label carries the name “carbonated energy drink with niacin and vitamin B12” – a ready-to-drink soft drink, not a powder you need to mix yourself. The drink is sugar-free: it contains less than 0.5 g of fat, carbohydrate and protein per 100 ml, and its taste comes from natural flavouring and the sweeteners sucralose and steviol glycosides.

One can contains 160 mg of caffeine, or 32 mg per 100 ml. The drink also contains L-arginine and taurine (0.21% each) and betaine (BetaPower). In terms of vitamins, a can provides 7.5 mg of niacin and 1.26 µg of vitamin B12, which is 47% and 50% of the nutrient reference value respectively. Depending on the flavour, a can contains only 16–26 kcal.

Ingredients and nutrition

The main ingredient is water, with added carbon dioxide, natural flavouring and the acidity regulators malic acid and citric acid. Caffeine is added as caffeine anhydrous, niacin as niacinamide and vitamin B12 as cyanocobalamin. The ingredient list is the same for all four flavours described; only the energy content differs by flavour: 3–5 kcal per 100 ml and 16–26 kcal per can. The drink contains 0 g of sugars and less than 0.001 g of salt per 100 ml.

Niacin and vitamin B12

Niacin, also known as vitamin B3, and vitamin B12 are water-soluble B vitamins. 100 ml of the drink provides 9% of the nutrient reference value for niacin and 10% for vitamin B12, a whole 500 ml can 47% and 50% respectively.

How to drink?

C4 Carbonated is ready to drink – just open the can and drink. The manufacturer recommends enjoying the drink in moderation as part of a balanced and varied diet. One can contains 160 mg of caffeine, so take into account the caffeine you get from coffee, tea, other energy drinks and food supplements during the day. Do not drink it late in the evening if caffeine may disturb your sleep. The best before date is printed on the can.

Who is it for?

C4 Carbonated is suitable for adults who want a sugar-free carbonated drink with caffeine, niacin and vitamin B12 – for example before training or in the middle of a long day. As it is sweetened with sweeteners, it also suits those who watch their sugar intake. Due to its high caffeine content, the drink is not recommended for children or pregnant or breast-feeding women, and it is not suitable for persons sensitive to caffeine.
