Rule1 Source 7 Protein – protein powder with seven protein sources

Rule1 Source 7 Protein is a powdered food supplement from the American sports brand Rule One Proteins (Rule1) whose protein blend consists of seven protein sources: four forms of whey protein, micellar casein, milk protein isolate and pea protein. One scoop (about 41 g) provides 22 g of protein and 170 kcal; a serving contains 10 g of carbohydrate, of which sugars 5 g, 5 g of fat and 1 g of fibre. In addition to the protein blend, the powder contains cocoa processed with alkali and a sunflower oil based creamer. Sportlab offers the product in two flavours; the composition and nutritional values in this description are those of the chocolate flavour (Chocolate Gelato on the EU label) according to its EU label. Protein, calcium and potassium

One serving contains 22 g of protein, which accounts for about 52% of the energy content of a serving; 100 g of powder contains 54 g of protein. A serving also provides 180 mg of calcium (23% NRV), 330 mg of potassium (17% NRV) and 1 mg of iron (7% NRV).

Seven protein sources

The components of the protein blend in the order given on the label:

• Whey protein concentrate – the less processed form of whey protein, which besides protein also contains some milk fat and milk sugar.
• Whey protein isolate – further filtered whey protein with a higher protein share.
• Native whey protein isolate – whey protein separated directly from milk rather than obtained as a by-product of cheese making.
• Whey protein hydrolysate – whey protein partially broken down by enzymes into shorter chains, i.e. peptides.
• Micellar casein – the main protein of milk in its natural form, clustered into micelles.
• Milk protein isolate – protein separated from milk that contains both casein and whey protein.
• Pea protein – plant protein obtained from peas.

How to use?

Mix about one scoop (41 g) of powder with approx. 180–240 ml of water, milk or your favourite beverage in a blender, shaker cup or glass with a spoon. The manufacturer suggests drinking the shake before or after workouts or as a snack at any time of the day to add protein to your daily routine. The recommended daily dose is about one scoop. The product is sold by weight, not volume, and the powder settles during shipping, so the container is not completely full. Always measure a serving with the scoop and keep the container tightly closed in a cool, dry place.

Who is it for and what to consider?

According to the manufacturer, Source 7 Protein is intended for healthy active adults who want to supplement their diet with protein; the product should be used as a food supplement only. It contains milk (whey protein, casein, milk protein) and soy (lecithin), so it is not suitable for people with milk or soy allergy. The powder is sweetened with sucralose and acesulfame K, and a small amount of lecithin has been added to help with mixing.
